Janis was born and raised in Long Beach, California. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from U.C.Berkeley with a degree in psychology. Prior to starting A.M.Shine Electric Inc. she was employed as a registered nurse at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. After Janis and Yoram married, they opened A.M.Shine Electric Inc. together where she has served and president and office manager since 1986.

In her free time Janis enjoys Israeli folk dancing as well as hiking. She is an avid reader, participating in two book clubs when she is not volunteering at her synagogue. She enjoys traveling and live theatre with her family. She and Yoram have two grown children together.
